As college classmates, my wife and I had an incredible experience as students at Nichols that prepared us for our careers. However, as we fast forward 20-30 years later, we realize just how different the world has become, and we yearn to make a difference.
The Missing Piece: Presentation Skills in the Pre-Technology Era
When we were undergraduates, technology was not as advanced as it is today. Along with that, the opportunity to present our ideas and research in front of an audience was limited. Though we had a speech class requirement, we longed for more chances to showcase our abilities to peers, faculty, parents, and esteemed individuals on a larger scale.
Embracing the Power of Presentations: Elevator Speech Competition Impact
Fast forward to the present, Nichols College has transformed the presentation landscape for its students. Unlike our time, the students today are given ample opportunities to present before they graduate. Additionally, the college hosts an Annual Elevator Speech Competition, raising the stakes even higher. Intriguingly, my journey with this event began when I was invited to be a judge on the panel.

Inspired by the passion and talent displayed by the students at the Annual Elevator Speech Competition, my wife and I made a commitment to become financial donors. We wanted to ensure that this remarkable opportunity would continue to benefit future generations. Not only have we served as judges, but we have also encouraged fellow alumni to engage in this enriching experience.
A Safe Haven for Growth: Building Skills and Confidence
Nichols College provides a safe environment for students to embrace bravery, prepare diligently, and deliver the skills they acquire and refine. In addition to the invaluable experience gained, there's an enticing incentive for the participants—a chance to win a monetary prize for those that place in the top 3.
Passing the Torch: From Winner to Emcee
The winner of the elevator speech competition is not only honored with a cash prize but also entrusted with the role of emcee for the following year. This passing of the torch creates a legacy of leadership, ensuring that each winner continues to develop their skills and inspire future generations of Nichols College students. In 2023, the emcee was Tara Ostromecky, the Founder and CEO of Makin' It Marketing, who is one of our partners.
